3. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Qasim ibn Yahya from his grandfather al-Hassan ibn Rashid from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘You (my followers) should bring up more children because I will claim to have the majority with you among the nations tomorrow (on the Day of Judgment).”’

God would not take a look at the following four people on the Resurrection Day: those who are damned by their parents; those who mention their favors; those who deny predestination; and alcoholics.”

“Verily people will pass the bridge [of ṣirāt] in ranks, and the ṣirāt is thinner than [a strand of] hair and the edge of a sword. Some will pass over it like lightning, some of them will pass like a galloping horse, others will pass sliding along, yet others will pass it crawling [quickly on all fours]. Others will pass it walking, and another among them will pass hanging from it, with fire taking [and burning] part of him and leaving another part.”

“When the believer is taken to account [for his deeds], his [heavenly] wives will be waiting for him on the thresholds of the doors just as wives wait for their husbands in this world when they are absent. Then a messenger will come and give them glad tidings saying, ‘So-andso has, by Allah, passed the accounting.’ They will say, ‘[Really,] by Allah?’ He will say, ‘By Allah he has; I saw him returning from the reckoning.’ When he comes to them, they will say, ‘Welcome, welcome! Your family whom you used to be with in the world are not more deserving of you than us!’”

1-86 Muhammad ibn Ali Majiluyih - may God be pleased with him - narrated that his uncle Muhammad ibn Abil-Qasim quoted on the authority of Ahmad ibn Aba Abdullah al-Barqy, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Muhammad ibn Abi Umayr, on the authority of Muhammad ibn Imran that Aba Abdullah as-Sadiq (MGB) said, “
On the Resurrection Day a servant will be brought forward who has no good deeds. He is told to try to remember if he has done any good deeds. He thinks and says, “O my Lord! I have no good deeds, but once when so and so who is one of your believing servants passed by me, I asked him for some water. He gave me water and I made ablutions with it. Then I prayed for Your sake.” Then God the Blessed the Sublime will say, “Indeed I forgave you for My sake. Take My servant to Heaven. ”

Muhammad ibn `Ali Majilwayh (RA) said on the authority of his paternal uncle Muhammad ibn Abu al-Qasim, on the authority of Ahmad ibn Abu `Abd Allah al-Barqi, on the authority his father, on the authority of Muhammad ibn Sinan, on the authority of Abu al-Jarud, on the authority of Muhammad ibn Bishr al-Hamdani that
I heard Muhammad ibn al-Hanafiyyah say The Command of the Faithful (AS) related to me: “The Messenger of Allah (SA) will take hold of Allah’s Waistband [hujzah]. We will take hold of the Prophet’s Waistband, and our Shi`ites will take hold of our Waistband.” I asked, “O Commander of the Faithful, what is the Waistband.” He answered, “Allah is greater than being characterized with a waistband or other than that. However, the Messenger of Allah (SA) will take hold of Allah’s Affair [amr]. We will take hold of the Prophet’s Affair, and our followers [Shi`ah] will take hold of Our Affair.”

Muhammad b. `Ali narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. Muhammad b. Abi’l Qasim narrated to us from his father from Muhammad b. Abi `Umar al-`Adani in Meca from Abi’l `Abbas b. Hamza from Ahmad b. Sawar from `Ubaydallah b. `Asim from Salama b. Wardan from Anas b. Malik. He said
The Messenger of Allah (s) said: If a believer dies, leaving behind one sheet of knowledge, that sheet will be a curtain between him and the Fire on the Day of Resurrection. For every letter written on it, Allah will grant him a city that is seven times wider than this world. A believer does not sit to learn for one moment except that his Lord calls to him, saying: “You have sat to attend to My beloved. By My glory and My majesty! I will have you live in Paradise with it, regardless [of your sins].”

“Abū ʿAbdillāh (a) said, ‘Verily the light on the Day of Judgment will be divided among the people in accordance to the extent of their belief. The share of the hypocrite will be such that his light will only extend to the tip of his left toe, then when it is extinguished, he will say [to the believer], “Stay where you are so that I can take from some of your light.” [But] it will be said, “Go back and seek a light [there],” (Q57:13) meaning where the light was [first] distributed. So they will [try to] return but a separating wall will be erected [to block them]. They will thus call out to them from behind the wall, “Were we not with you [in the world]?” They will reply, “Yes [you were], but you allowed yourselves to be tempted, awaited [our demise], doubted [the truth], and were deluded by false hopes until Allah’s decree came to pass. Hence the Deceiver deceived you about Allah. So today no ransom will be accepted from you [hypocrites], nor from the disbelievers. Your home is the Fire – that is where you belong. What an evil destination!” (Q57:14-15).’ Then he said, ‘O Abā Muḥammad,[1] by Allah this was not said to the Jews or the Christians; rather, it refers to the people of the Qiblah (i.e. those who outwardly profess Islam).’”

There are three people with whom God shall not Speak to, Look upon, or Purify on the Resurrection Day. There shall be a great punishment for them. They are those who pledge allegiance to a leader for the sake of this world such that they adhereto the leader for as long as the leader attends to their needs, but abandon him once he doesn’t. They are also those who sell goods to others and falsely swear by God the Honorable the Exalted that they have paid such and such an amount for the goods which they are selling and the buyer believes it. They are also those who possess extra drinking water in the desert, but do not let passers-by needing it use that water.”

5.Al-Qāsim ibn Muḥammad narrated from ʿAlī who said
“I heard Abā ʿAbdillāh (a) say, ‘Verily when Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, wants to take account [of the actions] of the believer, He gives him his book [of deeds] in his right hand and calls him to account [in private] between Himself and him. He says, “My servant, did you do such and such, and performed such and such [deeds]?” So he will say, “Yes my Lord, I have done that.” He will say, “I hereby forgive you [for these misdeeds] and transform them into good deeds.” So [when they see his book of deeds] the people will say, “Glory be to Allah! Did this servant not have [even] a single evil deed?” And this is [the interpretation of] the verses wherein Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, says: As for the one who is given his record in his right hand, he will have an easy reckoning, and will return to his people well pleased (Q84:7-9).’ I asked, ‘Who are his people [being referred to in the verse]?’ He said, ‘His people in the world will be his people in Paradise, if they were believers.’[1] And if He wishes ill for His servant [due to his evil], He calls him to account in front of all the people, reproves him, and gives him his book [of deeds] in his left hand. This is [the interpretation of] the verses wherein Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, says: And as for the one who is given his record [in his left hand] from behind his back, he will cry for [instant] destruction and will burn in a blazing fire. He used to [previously] live among his people well pleased [with himself]. (Q84:11-13)’ I asked, ‘Which people [is it referring to]?’ He replied, ‘His people in the world.’ I asked, ‘[What is the meaning of] the statement: He thought he would never return (Q84:14)?’ He said, ‘He assumed that he would never return [to his Lord].’”

Muhammad b. `Ali Majiluwayh (ra) narrated to us. He said: My uncle Muhammad b. Abi’l Qasim narrated to me. He said: Ahmad b. Abi `Abdillah al-Barqi narrated to me from his father Muhammad b. Khalid from Khalaf b. Hammad al-Asadi from Abi’l Hasan al-`Abdi from al-A`mash from `Abaya b. Rabi`i. He said
A young man from the Ansar used to come to `Abdullah b. `Abbas, and `Abdullah used to honour him and bring him close. So, it was said to him: You honour this young man and bring him close while he is an evil young man who goes to the graves and exhumes them at night! So, `Abdullah b. `Abbas said: If that were the case, then inform me. He said: So, the young man went out one night and began digging up a grave. `Abdullah b. `Abbas was informed of that, so he went to investigate his matter. He stood in a position where the young man could not see him. He said: So, he entered the grave that he dug. Then, he lay in the grave, and called out at the top of his voice: “Woe to me! When I enter lonely and alone, and the Earth sinks beneath me, it says: ‘No greeting and no welcome to you. I hated you while you were on my back, so how about while you are in my stomach!’ Surely, woe to me when I look at the prophets standing and the angels in rows. Who will save me from Your justice tomorrow? Who will deliver me from the tormented ones? Who will take me out of the punishment of the Fire? I disobeyed He who cannot be disobeyed. I made promises to my Lord, again and again, yet no sincerity nor loyalty was found in me.” He repeated this and wept. When he got out of the grave, Ibn `Abbas embraced him, and then said to him: The best of exhumers, the best of exhumers, the best of exhumers! Your exhuming is not for sins or errors. Then, they went.

35-6 In the year 285 A.H. (897 A.D.), al-Hakim Abu Ali Al-Husayn ibn Ahmad al-Bayhaqi narrated that Muhammad ibn Yahya al-Sowli quoted on the authority of Abu Thakwan Al-Qasim ibn Isma’il in Seiraf on the authority of Ibrahim ibn Abbas al-Sowli al-Katib in (the city of) Ahwaz in the year 227 A.H. (841 A.D.), “One day we were in the company of Ali ibn Musa Ar-Ridha’ (a.s.) and he (a.s.) told me, ‘There is no true joy in this world.’ Some of the jurisprudents present there said, ‘
It is not so. Did not God the Honorable the Exalted say? ‘Then, shall ye be questioned that Day about the joy (ye indulged in!).’ Is it not just the cold water we drink in this world?’” Then Ar-Ridha’ (a.s.) told them in a loud voice, ‘That is how you interpret it and bring about several forms of interpretation for it.’ Some said, ‘It is cold water.’ Others said, ‘It is delicious food.’ Still others said, ‘It is good sleep.’ Ar-Ridha’ (a.s.) said, ‘I quote on the authority of my father (a.s.), on the authority of his father Abi Abdullah As-Sadiq (a.s.) that what you said about the Sublime God’s words, ‘Then, shall ye be questioned that Day about the joy (ye indulged in!)’ were told to him. Then Imam As-Sadiq (a.s.) got angry and said, ‘The Exalted the Honorable God will neither question His servants about what He has nobly bestowed upon them, nor will He mention it to them. Even mentioning a good deed is bad for the people to do. How could they ascribe to God the Exalted the Honorable what God’s creatures will not be pleased with? However, the true joy is the love for us - the Members of the Holy Household. This is what God will question the people about after questioning them about the Unity of God and the Prophethood. If one has been loyal to this he will be rewarded with Heaven which is the Eternal Joy. My father had indeed hear this from his father (a.s.) who had heard it from his forefathers (a.s.) all the way back to the Commander of the Faithful (a.s.) who said, “God’s Prophet (S) said, ‘O Ali! Indeed, the first thing that one will be questioned about after death is to testify that ‘There is no god but God’ and that ‘Muhammad (a.s.) is God’s Messenger.’ He will also be questioned about testifying that ‘You (Ali) are the one with authority over the believers due to the authority which God has established and I have established for you.’ Whoever believes in these will be sent to the Joy in which there is no end.’”(Muhammad ibn Yahya al-Sowli added,) Abu Thakwan narrated this tradition for me without me asking him to do so. When he finished, he said, “I told you this tradition for several reasons. First of all, you have come to visit me from Basra. Secondly, its narrator is your uncle (Ibrahim bin Abbas al-Sowli). Thirdly, I was always interested solely in poetry and linguistics and did not pay any attention to anything else, until I dreamt of the Prophet (S). The people were greeting him, and he greeted them back. I went forward and greeted the Prophet (S) but he did not return my greetings. Al-Sowli asked, “O Prophet of God! Am I not from among your nation?” He (a.s.) said, “Yes, you are. But tell the people the tradition about “joy” that you have heard from Ibrahim.” Al-Sowli said, “This is the tradition which the people narrate on the authority of God’s Prophet (S). However, there is not such a description of “joy” in it with verses and interpretations. They just say that God’s Prophet (S) said, “The very first thing one is questioned about on the Resurrection Day is to testify to the Unity (of God), the Prophethood and the Authority of Ali ibn Abi Talib (a.s.).”
