Imam al-Kazim (AS) said, ‘Sins cannot be other than one of three cases: either they originate from Allah - which they do not - and in this case it would not be proper for the Lord to punish His servant for what he has not committed; or that they originate from Him and the servant together - which they do not - and in this case it would not be proper for the strong partner to wrong the weak partner; or that they originate from the servant - which they do - and in this case, if Allah forgives, it is due to His kindness and liberality, or if He punishes, it is as a result of the sin and crime of the servant.

“I heard Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) say, ‘If two people disagree in something, one of them gives half as much to his companion, but if he would not accept, it will be compensated for him (recipient of more than half for his injustice).’”

“’Amir al-Mu’minin (a.s.), wrote to him in the letter that he wrote to him with his own hand writing when he sent him to receive charity (Zakat). Those who owe Jadha’ah as Zakat for camels but do not have Jadha‘ah but have Hiqqah, it is accepted from them, but they must give two sheep along with it or twenty dirham. Those who owe one Hiqqah as Zakat but do not have it, but have Jadha’ah, it is accepted from them and Zakat collector gives them two sheep or twenty dirham. Those who owe Ibnata Makhad as Zakat but do not have it but they have Ibnata Labun, it is accepted from them and Zakat collector gives them two sheep or twenty dirham. Those who do not have Ibnata Makhad as it is but they have a male Ibnata Labun it is accepted from them without anything extra. Those who do not have anything other than four camels and have no other assets, there is not anything on them unless the owner desires (otherwise). If one’s asset is five camels, then its Zakat is one sheep.’” (Ahadith 2-7 are best explained in the form of fatwa.)

By Allāh, he is not capable of solving the problems that come to him nor is fit for the position assigned to him. Whatever he does not know he does not regard it worth knowing. He does not realise that what is beyond his reach is within the reach of others. If anything is not clear to him he keeps quiet over it because he knows his own ignorance. Lost lives are crying against his unjust verdicts, and properties (that have been wrongly disposed of) are grumbling against him.

Imam Sadiq (a.s) said: “A believer should have eight traits: (1) He should maintain his dignity when calamities befall him, (2) he should be patient when he is in trouble, (3) he should be grateful when he has plenty of blessings, (4) he should be content with his share of God-given daily bread, (5) he should not be oppressive with his enemies, (6) he should not be a burden on his friends, (7) he should use his body (to perform his duties), and (8) the people should be safe from him. Knowledge is like a believer's friend, patience is like his prime minister, and perseverance is like the head of his army. Kindness is like his brother, and gentleness is like his father.”

14. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Muhammad ibn Ahmad from abu ‘Abd Allah, al-Jamuraniy from al-Hassan ibn Ali ibn abu Hamzah from ‘Abd Allah ibn Waddah who has narrated the following
“Once I had a business deal with a Jewish man and he cheated me in the deal for one thousand dirham. I took him before the governor and made him take an oath, which he did. I knew that it was a sinful oath, taking on his part. Afterward a profit of many dirham emerged for him with me, I wanted to compensate the one thousand dirham from his profits; so I wrote to abu al-Hassan (a.s.), about it and informed him (the Imam) about my asking the Jewish man to take oath, and that he did take an oath. That now a certain amount of profit that belongs to him exists with me; if you permit, me I can offset thereof the one thousand dirham for which he took an oath. He (the Imam) wrote back the answer, ‘No, do not take anything thereof. If he did injustice to you, you must not do injustice to him. Had you not agreed to his taking an oath, I would have commanded you to compensate from what is in your hands; but you agreed that he must take an oath and it has taken with it whatever there was? I then was stopped by the letter of abu al-Hassan (a.s.).”

A man asked a question from Imam Sadiq (a.s). In his reply the Imam (a.s) said: “In fact unity and justice are the foundations of religion. The amount of religious knowledge is extensive, and every sane person must acquire it. Therefore remember what will make it easier for you to attain this knowledge, and prepares you to retain it.” Then the Imam (a.s) added: “Unity implies that you do not deem permissible with God what you deem permissible with yourself. And justice implies that you do not associate with God what He has reproached you for.”

If I had ordered his assassination I should have been his killer, but if I had refrained others from killing him I would have been his helper. They are demanding of me a right which they have abandoned, and a blood that they have themselves shed. [1] If I were a partner with them in it then they too have their share of it. But if they did it without me they alone have to face the consequences. Their biggest argument (against me) is (really) against themselves. Who is this challenger and for what is he being responded to? I am happy that the reasoning of Allāh has been exhausted before them and He knows (all) about them.

Abu Hanifa departed from al-Sadiq (as) one day and encountered Musa b. Ja`far (as) along the way. So, he said to him: O young man! Who is responsible for the committing of sin? So, he said: There are only three possibilities: (1) It is committed by Allah, which is impossible, because it is not proper for the Merciful to punish His servants for things they have not done. (2) The sin is committed by both Allah and the servant, but it is not proper for a Powerful partner to oppress a weak partner. (3) It is the servant that commits the sin. This is the case. If Allah punishes him, it is due to the sins that he has committed, and if Allah forgives him, it is due to His generosity.

The low is in my view worthy of honour till I secure (his) right for him while the strong is in my view weak till I take (other's) right from him. We are happy with the destiny ordained by Allāh and have submitted to the command of Allāh. Do you think I would speak lie about the Prophet of Allāh? By Allāh, I am surely the first to testify him, so I will not be the first to falsify him. I looked at my affairs and found that my obedience should have precedence over my allegiance while my pledge with him is a burden on my neck.
