Imam Ali (AS) said, Verily one whose riding mount is the night and day is carried [forward] by it even when he is stationary, and he traverses the distance even if he is settled in one place.

Darkness is disappearing gradually. Now it is as though travellers have got down and the hasteners will soon meet. Know, O my child, that everyone who is riding on the carriage of night and day is being carried by them even though he may be stationary, and he is covering the distance even though he is staying and resting.

I heard Abu Ja'far (Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as)) saying, "Whoever dies without an Imam, his death is like the death of the people in the time of ignorance (Jahiliyyah), and whoever dies while recognizing his Imam, whether this matter (Imamate) comes sooner or later, his status is like someone who stands with the leader in his troops."

“ One day abu ‘Abdallah (a.s.) initiated to speak to us and said, ‘The Messenger of Allah has said, “Whoever would die and is not under the (guardianship) of the Imam his death would be like a death in ignorance.” The narrator has said that I asked, “Is that what the Messenger of Allah has said?” The Imam (a.s.) said, “Yes, by Allah, he has said so.” I then said, “Do all who die without acknowledging the Imam die as if died in ignorance (without religion)?” The Imam (a.s.) said, “Yes, that is right.”

None of you will reach the truth of faith until there is in him three traits: until death is more beloved to him than life; poverty is more beloved to him than wealth; and illness is more beloved to him than health. We said: And who is as such? He said: All of you. Then he said: Which one is more beloved to you, that you die (whilst believing) in love to us, or that you live (whilst believing) in hate to us? So I said: That we die, by Allah, (believing) in love towards you is more beloved to us. He said: And so is (it that it applies to) poverty, wealth, illness and health. I said: Yes, by Allah.

O Ali, my hands have become white.’ I then visited abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), when Muhammad ibn Muslim was also there. When I stood up to leave, thinking that Muhammad would inform him about the case of the man (Zachariah ibn Sabur), he sent someone after me and I returned. He said, ‘Tell me about the man in whose dying condition you were present. What did you hear from him?’ I replied, ‘He stretched his hand and then said, “O Ali, my hands have become white!” Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), then said, ‘By Allah he saw him, by Allah he saw him, by Allah he saw him! ’”
