15.Ibrāhīm ibn Abī al-Bilād said, “Abū al-Ḥasan [al-Kāẓim] (a) said, ‘Verily I seek forgiveness from Allah five thousand times every day.’ Then he said to me, ‘Five thousand is a lot.’”

You should therefore make full atonement during your remaining days and let yourselves practice endurance in these days. These days are fewer as against the many days during which you have shown obliviousness and heedlessness towards admonition. Do not allow time to yourselves because it will put you on the path of wrongdoers and do not be easy-going because this will push you towards sinfulness.

“Once I asked Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) about the words of Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, ‘Whatever affliction befalls you is because of what your hands have obtained. ’(42:30) The Imam said, ‘. . . He forgives a great deal,’ (42:30) I (the narrator) then said, ‘I did not mean in that sense. Consider what befell Ali (a.s.) and people like him from Ahl al-Bayt (family of Holy Prophet).’ The Imam said, ‘The Messenger of Allah would plead, to return before Allah seventy times a day without committing any sin.’”

Once, I heard a Bedouin, before whom a monarch had been mentioned, saying: "If they have attained honour in this world by injustice and tyranny, they will definitely be disgraced by justice in the next world. They have contented themselves with little, leaving aside plenty, with insignificant things, setting aside that which is weightier. They will meet with forfeiture on the day when repentance will not benefit." And Abul Hasan recited the following couplets by Abu al-Ata’hiya: "Glory to the Master of all Dominions! What a night will it be, which will bear the dawn of the Day of Judgement? If a person were to imagine himself, how he will look on the day of Judgement, he may never glance at it. Allah has destined all man to extinction; Some go earlier and some lay behind." And may Allah bless our master Muhammad, the Prophet and his progeny.

"Regarding the statement of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: “Then Adam received (some) words from his Lord” [2:37], he said: ‘There is no god except You, Glory be to You, our Allah, and by Your Praise, I have acted in an evil manner and have been unjust to myself, so Forgive me, and You are the best of the Forgivers. There is no god except You. Glory be to You, our Allah, and by Your Praise. I have acted in an evil manner and have been unjust to myself, so Forgive me and be Merciful to me, and You are the Most Merciful of the merciful ones. There is no god except You. Glory be to You, our Allah, and by Your Praise. I have acted in an evil manner and have been unjust to myself, so Turn (with Forgiveness) to me for You are the Merciful Forgiver’. And in another report regarding the statement of the Mighty and Majestic: “Then Adam received (some) words from his Lord” [2:37], he said: ‘He asked for (forgiveness for) by the right of Muhammad (sw), and Ali (AS), and Al-Hassan (AS), and Al-Husayn (AS), and Fatima (sa)’.
