6. Humayd ibn Ziyad has narrated from ibn Sama‘ah from Muhammad ibn Ziyad from ‘Abd Allah ibn Sinan who has said the following
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Waiting period of a pregnant widow ends with the end of the longer of the two time periods.’”
حُمَيْدُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ عَنِ ابْنِ سَمَاعَةَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ
الْحُبْلَى الْمُتَوَفَّى عَنْهَا زَوْجُهَا عِدَّتُهَا آخِرُ الْأَجَلَيْنِ .

12. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from al-Nawfaliy from al-Sakuniy who has said the following
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that if a person keeps his shroud ready, for each time he looks on it he is entitled to one reward.”
12ـ عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِيِّ عَنِ السَّكُونِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ
إِذَا أَعَدَّ الرَّجُلُ كَفَنَهُ فَهُوَ مَأْجُورٌ كُلَّمَا نَظَرَ إِلَيْهِ.

8. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad in a marfu‘ manner who has said the following
“It was said to him (the Imam), ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause, because of the presence of fear I may not be able to place al-Jaridah (twig of palm tree) as you have told us.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Place them just as it is possible for you to do.’”
8ـ عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ رَفَعَهُ قَالَ
قِيلَ لَهُ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ رُبَّمَا حَضَرَنِي مَنْ أَخَافُهُ فَلاَ يُمْكِنُ وَضْعُ الْجَرِيدَةِ عَلَى مَا رَوَيْتَنَا قَالَ أَدْخِلْهَا حَيْثُ مَا أَمْكَنَ.

2. Humayd ibn Ziyad has narrated from al-Hassan ibn Muhammad from Muhammad ibn abu Hamzah from Mu‘awiyah ibn ‘Ammar who has said the following
“I asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about a dying person. He said, ‘Make the undersides of his feet face toward Qiblah.’ ”
2ـ حُمَيْدُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ عَمَّارٍ قَالَ
سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) عَنِ الْمَيِّتِ فَقَالَ اسْتَقْبِلْ بِبَاطِنِ قَدَمَيْهِ الْقِبْلَةَ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that it is not advisable to cry loudly for a deceased or teardown one’s clothes.”

لاَ يَنْبَغِي الصِّيَاحُ عَلَى الْمَيِّتِ وَلاَ شَقُّ الثِّيَابِ.

1. Humayd ibn Ziyad has narrated from al-Hassan ibn Muhammad from Sama‘ah from Muhammad ibn abu Hamzah from Ali ibn Yaqtin who has said the
f oho wing: “I once asked the virtuous servant of Allah about the case of a woman who dies with her child in her womb. He (the Imam) (a.s.), said, ‘Her belly is opened to remove her child.’”
1ـ حُمَيْدُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَمَاعَةَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ يَقْطِينٍ قَالَ
سَأَلْتُ الْعَبْدَ الصَّالِحَ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) عَنِ الْمَرْأَةِ تَمُوتُ وَوَلَدُهَا فِي بَطْنِهَا قَالَ يُشَقُّ بَطْنُهَا وَيُخْرَجُ وَلَدُهَا.

8. Sahl ibn Ziyad has narrated from ibn abu Najran from ‘Abd Allah ibn Sinan who has said the following
“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), if one who gives Ghusl (bath) to a dead person is required to take Ghusl (bath). He (the Imam) said, ‘Yes, he is required to take Ghusl (bath).’ I then asked if one who places the deceased in the grave is required to take Ghusl (bath). He (the Imam) said, ‘No, he is not required to take Ghusl (bath) because he only touches the cloth.’”
8ـ سَهْلُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجْرَانَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الله بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ
قُلْتُ لَهُ أَ يَغْتَسِلُ مَنْ غَسَّلَ الْمَيِّتَ قَالَ نَعَمْ قُلْتُ مَنْ أَدْخَلَهُ الْقَبْرَ قَالَ لاَ إِنَّمَا يَمَسُّ الثِّيَابَ.

H 243 - It is narrated from the same chains from Ali bin Muhammad bin Abi Aqil Isa Ibn Nasr that he said
“Ali Ibn Ziyad Saymoori wrote and requested for a burial shroud. The Imam wrote back: “You will need it in the year two hundred and eighty.” He died that year and the Imam sent him a burial shroud before his demise.”
243- وبهذا الاسناد، عن علي بن محمد، عن أبي عقيل عيسى بن نصر قال
كتب علي بن زياد الصيمري يلتمس كفنا، فكتب إليه: إنك تحتاج (إليه) في سنة ثمانين. فمات في سنة ثمانين، وبعث إليه بالكفن قبل موته.

1. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn abu Nasr from Ali ibn abu Hamzah who has said the following
“I once asked abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), about a man who in the state of Ihram dies. He (the Imam) said, ‘He is given Ghusl (bath), shroud and his face is covered, but Hunut (rubbing camphor over the seven parts of the body which one places on the ground for Sajdah (prostration)) is not used for him, nor any other kinds of perfumes.”’
1ـ عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي نَصْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ عَنْ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَم) فِي الْمُحْرِمِ يَمُوتُ قَالَ
يُغَسَّلُ وَيُكَفَّنُ وَيُغَطَّى وَجْهُهُ وَلا يُحَنَّطُ وَلا يُمَسُّ شَيْئاً مِنَ الطِّيبِ.

6. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Husayn ibn Sa‘id from Fadalah ibn Ayyub from ’Isma‘il ibn abu Ziyad who has said the following
“Abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah kissed ‘Uthman ibn Maz’un after his death.”
6ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ فَضَالَةَ بْنِ أَيُّوبَ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ
إِنَّ رَسُولَ الله (صلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) قَبَّلَ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ مَظْعُونٍ بَعْدَ مَوْتِهِ.

9. Humayd ibn Ziyad has narrated from al-Hassan ibn Muhammad from Wuhayb ibn Hafs from abu Basir who has said the following
“Once I asked abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), about the death of a believing person. The Imam said, ‘A believing person may die by any form of death, such as by drowning, or collapse of a house, by beasts or thunderous lightening but not when speaking of Allah.’”
9ـ حُمَيْدُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ وُهَيْبِ بْنِ حَفْصٍ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ قَالَ
سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) عَنْ مِيتَةِ الْمُؤْمِنِ فَقَالَ يَمُوتُ الْمُؤْمِنُ بِكُلِّ مِيتَةٍ يَمُوتُ غَرَقاً وَيَمُوتُ بِالْهَدْمِ وَيُبْتَلَى بِالسَّبُعِ وَيَمُوتُ بِالصَّاعِقَةِ وَلاَ تُصِيبُ ذَاكِرَ الله تَعَالَى.

2. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn abu Najran from ‘Abd Allah ibn Sinan who has said the following
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the only people who are interrogated in the grave are those whose belief or disbelief is absolute and total, and people other than these are left alone.”
2ـ عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي نَجْرَانَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الله بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ
إِنَّمَا يُسْأَلُ فِي قَبْرِهِ مَنْ مَحَضَ الإِيمَانَ مَحْضاً وَالْكُفْرَ مَحْضاً وَأَمَّا مَا سِوَى ذَلِكَ فَيُلْهَى عَنْهُمْ.

1. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn abu Nasr from al-‘Ala’ ibn Razin from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following
“I once asked him (the Imam) (a.s.), about performing Salah (prayer) for the dead bodies of men and women. He (the Imam) said, ’The dead bodies of men are placed near men and those of women behind the (dead) men.”’
1ـ عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي نَصْرٍ عَنِ الْعَلاَءِ بْنِ رَزِينٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ
سَأَلْتُهُ كَيْفَ يُصَلَّى عَلَى الرِّجَالِ وَالنِّسَاءِ قَالَ يُوضَعُ الرَّجُلُ مِمَّا يَلِي الرِّجَالَ وَالنِّسَاءُ خَلْفَ الرِّجَالِ.

159. A number of our companions, from Sahl Bin Ziyad, from Ibn Mahboub, from the one whom he mentioned, who has narrated the following
Abu Abdullah (asws) said, ‘A strip of the slipper of Abu Abdullah (asws) broke whilst he (asws) was in a funeral. So a man came with his strip for his (asws) slipper (as a replacement). He (asws) said: ‘Hold on to your strip, for patience is foremost for the people in misfortune’.
عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَمَّنْ ذَكَرَهُ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (عليه السلام) قَالَ
انْقَطَعَ شِسْعُ نَعْلِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (عليه السلام) وَ هُوَ فِي جَنَازَةٍ فَجَاءَ رَجُلٌ بِشِسْعِهِ لِيُنَاوِلَهُ فَقَالَ أَمْسِكْ عَلَيْكَ شِسْعَكَ فَإِنَّ صَاحِبَ الْمُصِيبَةِ أَوْلَى بِالصَّبْرِ عَلَيْهَا.

6. Humayd ibn Ziyad has narrated from al-Hassan ibn Muhammad ibn Sama‘ah from more than one person from Aban ibn ‘Uthman from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn abu ‘Abd Allah who has said the following
“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the case of the dead bodies of men and women collected together. He (the Imam) said, ‘The dead bodied of men are placed first, according to the book of Ali (a.s.).’”
6ـ حُمَيْدُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَمَاعَةَ عَنْ غَيْرِ وَاحِدٍ عَنْ أَبَانِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله قَالَ
سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) عَنْ جَنَائِزِ الرِّجَالِ وَالنِّسَاءِ إِذَا اجْتَمَعَتْ فَقَالَ يُقَدَّمُ الرِّجَالُ فِي كِتَابِ عَلِيٍّ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام).

9. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from ibn Mahbub from ibn Ri’ab from abu Hamzah who has said the following
“Ali ibn al-Husayn, Alayhim al-Salam, would say, ‘Animals, no matter how unintelligent and dubious they may be, are not so in four issues: One is knowing the Lord, death, male and female, and what is a pasture and what is a barren land.’”
عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنِ ابْنِ رِئَابٍ عَنْ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ قَالَ
كَانَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ ( عليه السلام ) يَقُولُ مَا بَهِمَتِ الْبَهَائِمُ فَلَمْ تُبْهَمْ عَنْ أَرْبَعَةٍ مَعْرِفَتِهَا بِالرَّبِّ وَ مَعْرِفَتِهَا بِالْمَوْتِ وَ مَعْرِفَتِهَا بِالْأُنْثَى مِنَ الذَّكَرِ وَ مَعْرِفَتِهَا بِالْمَرْعَى عَنِ الْخِصْبِ .

5. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn abu Nasr and al-Hassan ibn Mahbub from abu Jamilah from Jabir who has said the following
“Abu Ja’far (a.s.), has said, ‘The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘A sudden death compensates (for the short comings) of a believing person but it is a regrettable grip for an unbeliever.’”
5ـ عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي نَصْرٍ وَالْحَسَنِ بْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَمِيلَةَ عَنْ جَابِرٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ
قَالَ رَسُولُ الله (صلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) إِنَّ مَوْتَ الْفَجْأَةِ تَخْفِيفٌ عَنِ الْمُؤْمِنِ وَأَخْذَةُ أَسَفٍ عَنِ الْكَافِرِ.

2. Sahi ibn Ziyad has narrated from ’Isma‘ii ibn Mahziyar from Afi ibn abu Hamzah who has said the following
“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the case of a woman who dies and the baby moves inside her belly; is it prescribed to cut open to take the baby out. He (the Imam) said, ‘Yes, it must be cut open.’ In the narration of Ibn Abi ‘Umayr it is added that after taking out the baby the cut is stitched to close her belly.”
2ـ سَهْلُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ مِهْرَانَ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ
سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الْمَرْأَةِ تَمُوتُ وَيَتَحَرَّكُ الْوَلَدُ فِي بَطْنِهَا أَ يُشَقُّ بَطْنُهَا وَيُسْتَخْرَجُ وَلَدُهَا قَالَ نَعَمْ. وَفِي رِوَايَةِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ زَادَ فِيهِ يُخْرَجُ الْوَلَدُ وَيُخَاطُ بَطْنُهَا.

3. Humayd ibn Ziyad has narrated from al-Hassan ibn Muhammad ibn Sama’a from Wahab ibn Hafs from abu Basir who has said the following
“I asked Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) about the death of the believing persons. The Imam said, ‘A believing person may die in any form of death, drowning, by the debris of falling buildings, or beasts may cause his death. He may die because of lightning except when speaking of Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy.’”
3ـ حُمَيْدُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَمَاعَةَ عَنْ وُهَيْبِ بْنِ حَفْصٍ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ قَالَ
سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) عَنْ مِيتَةِ الْمُؤْمِنِ قَالَ يَمُوتُ الْمُؤْمِنُ بِكُلِّ مِيتَةٍ يَمُوتُ غَرَقاً وَيَمُوتُ بِالْهَدْمِ وَيُبْتَلَى بِالسَّبُعِ وَيَمُوتُ بِالصَّاعِقَةِ وَلا تُصِيبُ ذَاكِرَ الله عَزَّ وَجَلَّ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘When a woman receives the news of the death of her husband, she must begin counting her waiting period and mourning for him.’”
أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الْأَشْعَرِيُّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ وَ أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ الرَّزَّازُ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ بْنِ نُوحٍ جَمِيعاً عَنْ صَفْوَانَ عَنِ ابْنِ مُسْكَانَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ
فِي الْمَرْأَةِ إِذَا بَلَغَهَا نَعْيُ زَوْجِهَا قَالَ تَعْتَدُّ مِنْ يَوْمِ يَبْلُغُهَا أَنَّهَا تُرِيدُ أَنْ تُحِدَّ لَهُ .
