“I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), saying, ‘A wine addict will meet Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, when he meets Him, as a worshipper of idols will do.’”

“By Allah, disbelief is older than polytheism and more vile and greater (in filth.) The narrator has said that the Imam then mentioned the disbelief of Iblis when Allah said to him: 'Prostrate to Adam,' but he refused to prostrate. Thus, disbelief is greater than polytheism. So, whoever chooses anything over Allah, Exalted and Mighty, and refuses to obey, and persists in major sins, he is a disbeliever. And whoever establishes a religion other than the religion of the believers, he is a polytheist."

“Abu Ja’far (a.s.), has said, ‘When you enter Masjid al-Haram (the Sacred Masjid) and are parallel with the Black Stone, say, “I testify that no one deserves worship except Allah, who is One and has no partners and I testify that Muhammad is His servant and His messenger. I have believed in the existence of Allah, and have rejected al-Taghut, al-Lat, al-‘Uzza’, worshipping Satan and worshipping anything that is considered similar to Allah.’ Then go near the Black Stone, touch it with your right hand and say, ‘In the name of Allah and Allah is great beyond description. O Allah, I have returned my trust and (I reaffirm) my covenant that I had undertaken, so bear witness for me before You to my standing up by my commitment and covenant.’”

I heard Abu `Abd Allah al-Sadiq (AS) that “Verily, Allah, the Mighty and High, cannot be described.” Zurarah said: Abu Ja`far al-Baqir (AS) said: “Verily, Allah, the Mighty and High, cannot be described. And how could He be described when He has said in his Book: And they do not assign to Allah the attributes due to Him? Thus, whatever they assign Him, He is greater than that.”

I asked Abu `Abd Allah al-Sadiq (AS): “Does Allah know everything from sempiternity?”He (AS) replied, “What was He to know when there was nothing to be known?” He says, I asked, “Does Allah hear from sempiternity?” He (AS) answered, “Who was He to hear when there was nothing to be heard?” He says, I asked, “Does Allah see from sempiternity?” He (AS) responded, “Who was He to see when there was nothing to be seen?” Then he (AS) said: “Allah has always been AllKnowing, All-Hearing, All-Seeing, sempiternally, and the Possessor of the Knowledge of Hearing and Seeing.”

do not abandon your gods. Do not abandon Wadd, Suwa’, Yaghuth, Ya’uq and Nasr” (71:23) - He said: They (the people named in the verse) used to worship Allah Mighty and Majestic then they died. Their people cried out (because of that) and it weighed heavily on them. Iblis - curse of Allah be upon him - came to them and said: ‘I will make idols for you in their image, you will look at them and obtain comfort while continuing to worship Allah’. He made for them idols in their likeness. They used to worship Allah Mighty and Majestic and look upon those idols. When winter and the rains came they transferred the idols inside their houses. They continued worshipping Allah Mighty and Majestic until that generation died out and their sons grew up. They (the second generation) said: ‘Our fathers used to worship these (idols)’ so they began worshipping them instead of Allah Mighty and Majestic. This then is the interpretation of the words of Allah Blessed and Elevated: “Do not abandon Wadd nor Suwa’a …”
