Imam (as) said: "Whoever appoints a man as an agent to execute a matter, the agency remains valid permanently until he informs him of its termination, just as he informed him of its initiation."

“This is concerning my question before abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the case of a man who rented his house to those who used it for selling wine. He (the Imam) said, ‘Its rent is unlawful.’”

foiiowing: “This is concerning my question before abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the case of a man who becomes friends with a woman who gives him a certain amount of asset which remains in his hands for as long as Allah wants; then he spends from it. He (the Imam) said, ‘He must return it to her and if anything extra is left it is for him.’”

"Do not approach it, for sometimes he may give you fat meat, sometimes lean meat, and sometimes emaciated meat. Instead, buy it through direct observation, hand-to-hand." Imam (as) was also asked about lending water carriers (skins). Imam (as) said: "No, for sometimes he may give you an incomplete one and sometimes a complete one. Rather, buy them through direct observation, for this is safer for you and for him."

"When Allah (swt), the Blessed and Exalted, revealed the verse: 'Indeed, intoxicants, gambling, [sacrificing on] stone alters [to other than Allah (swt)], and divining arrows are but defilement from the work of Satan, so avoid them' (Surah Al-Ma'idah 5:90). The people asked: 'O Messenger of Allah (swt), what is gambling (maysir)?' He (sw) replied: 'Everything that involves betting, even dice and walnuts.' They asked: 'What are the stone alters (ansab)?' He (sw) said: 'They are the sacrifices offered to their idols.' They asked: 'What are the divining arrows (azlam)?' He (sw) said: 'They are their arrows used for seeking decisions or division.'"

“I once asked abu Ja‘far (a.s.), about the case of advance payment for meat. He (the Imam) said, ‘You must not go close to it because one time he gives you fatty, one time what is about to become spoilled and one time he gives you boney. Buy with examination and in hand in hand manner.’ I then asked about advance payment for containers of water. He (the Imam) said, ‘You must not go close to it because one time he gives you less and one time complete. Buy it with examination; it is safe for you and for him.’”

“Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘There will come a time when people complain before their Lord.’ I then asked, ‘How they will complain before their Lord?’ He (the Imam) replied, ‘A man will say, “By Allah, I have not gained anything since so and so much time and ate or drank except from my capital.” Fie upon you, is your capital or its peak from any source other than from your Lord!”’

The Honorable the Exalted God forgives one who takes it easy whenever he sells, buys, judges or has a demand.”

“Abu Ja’far (a.s.), has said, ‘Whenever Ali ibn al-Husayn (a.s.), would think of performing Hajj, ‘Umrah or buying, selling or setting free a slave, he would first cleanse himself (take Wudu’ or bath), then perform two Rak‘at Salah (prayer) for Istikharah in which he read chapters 55 and 59. After completing Salah (prayer) he would read chapters 113, 114 and 112 while still in a sitting position. He then say, ‘O Lord, if such and such thing is good for me in this world and for my religion, immediately or later, Allahumma Salli ‘Ala Muhammad wa ‘Ali Muhammad, (O Allah grant Muhammad and his family a compensation worthy of their serving Your cause), please make it easy for me in the best manner and make it come beautiful. O Lord, if such and such thing is bad for my religion and my worldly matters immediately or later, Allahumma Salli ‘Ala Muhammad wa ‘Ali Muhammad, (O Allah grant Muhammad and his family a compensation worthy of their serving Your cause), please keep it away from me. O Lord, Allahumma Salli ‘Ala Muhammad wa ‘Ali Muhammad, (O Allah grant Muhammad and his family a compensation worthy of their serving your cause), please grant me determination with guidance even if I dislike it and my soul refuses.”

“Abu Ja’far (a.s.), has said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin (a.s.), lived among you in al-Kufah. He would have one loaf of bread everyday for his lunch and walk in market-places of al- Kufah one by one with a durrah (whip) on his shoulder. It had two strips and it was called al- Sababiyah. He addressed the people of every market-place and said, ‘Those people who do business must maintain piety before Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious.’ People on hearing his voice dropped down whatever they had in their hands, their hearts repented and their ears listened. He (the Imam) would say, ‘You must seek goodness (from Allah) and conclude a transaction with ease, stay close to buyers, dress up with forbearance, stay away from swearing, lying and injustice. Exercise fairness with the oppressed and do not become close to Riba’. Maintain proper measurement and balance. You must not reduce people’s things and you must not spread corruption in the land.’ He (the Imam) would walk in all of market-places of al-Kufah and then return to meet people.”
