“This is a narration of abu Ja‘far (a.s.), from the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause. He (the Messenger of Allah) has said, ‘You must not hire a dimwitted woman for breastfeeding; the milk spreads and the boy is drawn to the milk, that is, to the frivolity and dimwittedness of the breastfeeding woman.’”

“He (the Imam) has said, ‘Allah, the most Majestic, the most Glorious, sent revelation to Dawud (David) (a.s.), that said, ‘I forgave your sins and placed the blame thereof on the Israelites.’ He (Dawud) asked, ‘How can that be, O Lord? You do not do injustice. He (the Lord) replied, ‘Because they did not express disappointment for what you had done.’” (This Hadith is addressed to Dawud but it is meant to apply to others. It is one of the cases where the popular expression, ‘I address you O slave-girl, but you, the neighbor woman listen.’)

“Abu `Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, £ We do not know of any other forms of al-Hajj for the sake of Allah except al-Mut £ ah. Before Allah we will say, £ Our Lord, we followed your book and the Sunnah of Your Holy prophet, and the people will say, “We acted according to our opinions,” then Allah will place us and them as He wills.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘Whoever looks down upon a believer, destitute or not, Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, continues looking down upon him and hate him until he changes his attitude as such toward a believer.’”

“By God! Ar-Ridha’ (a.s.) did not accept this affair willingly. He was unwillingly taken to Kufa, then he was taken to Marv by way of Basra and Fars.”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that during al-Hajj season Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, sends angels in the form of people to buy the goods of the pilgrims and merchants.” I then asked, ‘What do they do with them?’ He (the Imam) replied, ‘They throw them in the sea.’”

20-5 (The compiler of the book narrated) that his father - may God be pleased with him - narrated that Ali ibn Ibrahim ibn Hashim quoted his father, on the authority of Muhammad ibn Abi Umayr, on the authority of Hammad ibn Uthman, on the authority of Al-Fuzayl ibn Yasar, “On the 21st and 23rd nights of the month of Ramazan, Abi Ja’far al-Baqir (MGB) said supplications from the beginning of the night until midnight, and then started to pray from midnight.”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has stated this Hadith: ‘If one owes fasting of the month of Ramadan, he can make its Qada’ (compensatory fast) in any month that he likes but in a continued order. If he is not able to do so, he then is required to complete its Qada’ (compensatory fast) in a way he can complete. He must keep the number of days clear and without confusion. Fasting in different times is valid as well as in continued order.’”

“I once asked abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), about a man who fasts on journey. He (the Imam) said, ‘If he is informed that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, prohibited fasting on a journey, he is required to complete its Qada’ (compensatory fast) but if such information has not reached him, he is not obligated for anything/”

If he has come out before midday he is required to stop fasting and complete its Qada’ (compensatory fast) but if he has come out after Zawal (declining of the sun toward the west at noontime), he is required to complete his fast (of that day).”’

“I once asked one of the two Imam, (abu Ja‘far or abu ‘Abd Allah), ‘Alayhim al-Salam, about the words of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, ‘He has made lawful for you the pitch-black animals for food.’ (5:2) He (the Imam) said, ‘It means the young in the womb of the mother when it grows hair or wool, thus, proper slaughtering for it is the proper slaughtering of the mother and that is to which the words of Allah refer.”’

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has stated this Hadith. ‘My father would say, “All praise belongs to Allah who has made us satisfied with food among the hungry ones, quenched our thirst among the thirsty people. He has given us shelter among the homeless ones, given us means of transport among those who move without means of transportation, has granted us safety among the frightened ones and has serviced us among the toiling ones.’”

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘When a man in good health divorces his wife as such wherein he does not have the right to go back to her, she then does not inherit him and he does not inherit her legacy.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘If he in a divorce has the right to go back to her then she inherits him and he inherits her until she experiences the third cycle of her Hayd (menses).”’

“I once asked Abu `Abd Allah (a.s.), ’Which kind of al-Hajj is more virtuous?’ He (the Imam) replied, ‘It is al-Tamattu £ . How can there be anything more virtuous and the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, “In future I certainly will not go back. I will do what people are doing.” (People did al-Tamattu £ and the Messenger of Allah performed Tfrad (Individual Hajj ).’” (see Chapter 27 h4 above)

“I once asked abu ‘ Abdillah (a.s.), about a man who says Talbiyah for al-Hajj in Ifrad manner (al-Hajj without al-Umrah), enters Makkah, performs Tawaf around the House, offers a two rak'at Salat (prayer) near the Maqam (station) of Ibrahim (AS), and performs Sa'y between al-Safa’ and al-Marwah. He (the Imam) said, 'He must come out of the state of Ihram and make it al-Hajj al-Tamattu unless he has driven the offering animal along with him.”’

“I once asked him (the Imam) (a.s.), about why Talbiyah is required. He (the Imam) said, ‘Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, sent revelation to Ibrahim ‘Alayhi al-Salam that said, ‘Call people for al-Hajj. They will come to you on foot and on lean camels from all directions.’ He called and his call was answered from all directions with al-Talbiyah (here I am O Lord, to obey Your command).”’

“I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), saying, ‘(The gathering for) music (and singing) is a gathering to the participant of which Allah does not look. Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, has said, ‘There are people who pay for worthless tales (or activities) that deviates them from the path of Allah without their realizing such bad results...’ (31:6)”

“This is concerning my question before abu ‘Abd Allah, Alayhi al-Salam, about the case of a man who divorces his wife once, then leaves her alone until waiting period is complete; then another man marries her, then the man dies or divorces her and the first husband comes back to her. He (the Imam) said, ‘She can live with him for the two remaining divorces.’”

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about a man who, during a journey, experiences sexual relation but does not have any water with him except very little and is afraid of facing thirst if it is used for Ghusl (bath). He (the Imam) said, ‘If he is afraid of facing thirst, he must spill not even one drop; he must take Tayammum with soil; soil is more dear to me”
