Zurarah ibn A'yan

Zurarah ibn A'yan kept company with al-Bāqir (ʿa), al-Ṣādiq (ʿa) and al-Kāẓim (ʿa) and was of Kufa (Shayban/Mawla) and died in 150 AH. Ikhtiyār Maʿrifat al-Rijāl, Jāmiʿ al-Ruwāt, Muʿjam Rijāl al-Ḥadīth and Rijāl al-Ṭūsī hold him reliable.

hadith 502

6. [6/383] al-Tawhid: My father from Sa’d from Ahmad and Abdallah the two sons of Muhammad b. Isa from Ibn Mahbub from Ibn Riab from Zurara who said

I asked Aba Abdillah عليه السلام about the words of Allah Mighty and Majestic: “The Fitra of Allah which He created the people upon” (30:30). He said: He created them all upon Tawhid.

[383/6] التوحيد: أبي، عن سعد، عن أحمد وعبد الله ابني محمد بن عيسى، عن ابن محبوب، عن ابن رئاب، عن زرارة قال

سألت أبا عبد الله عليه السلام عن قول الله عزوجل فِطْرَتَ اللَّهِ الَّتِي فَطَرَ النَّاسَ عَلَيْهَا قال: فطرهم جميعا على التوحيد

hadith 514

Hadith.2085 - It is narrated by Hammad ibn Isa, from Hariz, from Abu Basir and Zurara, who both said that Abu Abdullah (as) said

"Indeed, completing the fast includes giving Zakat, meaning Zakat al-Fitr, just as sending blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) is part of completing the prayer. For whoever fasts but does not pay the Zakat (al-Fitr), their fast is not accepted if they intentionally neglect it. Similarly, whoever prays but does not send blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), their prayer is not complete. Allah (swt), the Almighty and Majestic, has mentioned it (Zakat) before prayer, saying: 'He indeed is successful who purifies himself and remembers the name of his Lord (azj) and prays.' (Surah Al-A'la 87:14-15)

2085 - وَ رَوَى حَمَّادُ بْنُ عِيسَى عَنْ حَرِيزٍ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ وَ زُرَارَةَ قَالاَ

قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اَللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ : «إِنَّ مِنْ تَمَامِ اَلصَّوْمِ إِعْطَاءُ اَلزَّكَاةِ يَعْنِي اَلْفِطْرَةَ كَمَا أَنَّ اَلصَّلاَةَ عَلَى اَلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اَللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ مِنْ تَمَامِ اَلصَّلاَةِ لِأَنَّهُ مَنْ صَامَ وَ لَمْ يُؤَدِّ اَلزَّكَاةَ فَلاَ صَوْمَ لَهُ إِذَا تَرَكَهَا مُتَعَمِّداً وَ لاَ صَلاَةَ لَهُ إِذَا تَرَكَ اَلصَّلاَةَ عَلَى اَلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اَللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ إِنَّ اَللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ قَدْ بَدَأَ بِهَا قَبْلَ اَلصَّلاَةِ قَالَ «۝ قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَنْ تَزَكّٰى. `وَ ذَكَرَ اِسْمَ رَبِّهِ فَصَلّٰى ۝»

hadith 691

1. We were told by my father, may Allah grant him mercy, that he said: We were told by Ali bin Ibrahim bin Hashim, from his father, from Muhammed bin Abi ‘Umayr, from Umar bin Udhayna, from Zurara, that he said

I asked Abu Ja’far, peace be upon him, about the saying of Allah, Exalted and Glorious is He: «Turning (in orthodoxy) to Allah, not associating (anything) with Him» (22:31) and I said: What is orthodoxy? He said: It is innateness.

حدثنا أبي - رحمه الله - قال حدثنا علي بن إبراهيم بن هاشم، عن أبيه، عن محمد بن أبي عمير، عن عمر بن أذينة، عن زرارة قال

سألت أبا جعفر عليه السلام عن قول الله عز وجل " حنفاء لله غير مشركين به " وقلت: ما الحنفية؟ قال: هي الفطرة.

Hadith.1619 - Ali ibn Ibrahim, from his father, from Ibn Abi Umayr, from Umar ibn Udaynah, from Zurara, from Abd al-Karim ibn Utbah al-Hashimi, from Abu Abdullah Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq (as) who said

“The Messenger of Allah (swt), peace and blessings be upon him and his family, used to distribute the charity of the Bedouins among the Bedouins and the charity of the city dwellers among the city dwellers. He would not divide it equally among them but rather distributed it according to the number of people present and as he saw fit. There was no fixed measure in this regard.”

1619 - عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ اِبْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ أُذَيْنَةَ عَنْ زُرَارَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اَلْكَرِيمِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ اَلْهَاشِمِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اَللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ قَالَ

كَانَ رَسُولُ اَللَّهِ صَلَّى اَللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ يَقْسِمُ صَدَقَةَ أَهْلِ اَلْبَوَادِي فِي أَهْلِ اَلْبَوَادِي وَ صَدَقَةَ أَهْلِ اَلْحَضَرِ فِي أَهْلِ اَلْحَضَرِ وَ لاَ يَقْسِمُهَا بَيْنَهُمْ بِالسَّوِيَّةِ إِنَّمَا يَقْسِمُهَا عَلَى قَدْرِ مَا يَحْضُرُهُ مِنْهُمْ وَ مَا يَرَى لَيْسَ فِي ذَلِكَ شَيْءٌ مُوَقَّتٌ.

1. [1/379] Ma’ani al-Akhbar: My father from Ali from his father from Ibn Abi Umayr from Ibn Udhayna from Zurara who said

I asked Aba Ja’far عليه السلام about the words of Allah Mighty and Majestic: “Hunafa for Allah, not associating with Him (anything)” (22:31). I said: What is the Hanifiyya? He said: The Fitra.

سألت أبا جعفر عليه السلام عن قول الله عزوجل حُنَفَاءَ لِلَّهِ غَيْرَ مُشْرِكِينَ بِهِ فقلت: ما الحنيفية؟ قال: هي الفطرة

9. [9/-] Ilal al-Sharai: My father from Sa’d from Muhammad b. Isa from al-Hasan b. Fadhal from Ibn Bukayr from Zurara who said

I asked Aba Ja’far عليه السلام about the words of Allah Mighty and Majestic: “When your Lord took from the Children of Adam from their backs their descendants and made them bear witness against their own selves - am I not your Lord? They said: Indeed” (7:172). He said: The Ma’rifa (Recognition) was confirmed but they forgot the time (when this episode occurred) and they will come to remember it one day. If it were not for that no one would know who his Creator is nor who his Sustainer is.

سألت أبا جعفر عليه السلام عن قول الله عزوجل: وَإِذْ أَخَذَ رَبُّكَ مِنْ بَنِي آدَمَ مِنْ ظُهُورِهِمْ ذُرِّيَّتَهُمْ وَأَشْهَدَهُمْ عَلَى أَنْفُسِهِمْ أَلَسْتُ بِرَبِّكُمْ قَالُوا بَلَى قال: ثبتت المعرفة ونسوا الوقت وسيذكرونه يوما، ولولا ذلك لم يدر أحد من خالقه ولا من رازقه

7. [7/384] al-Tawhid: My father from Sa’d from Ahmad b. Muhammad from his father from Ibn al-Mughira from Ibn Muskan from Zurara who said

I said to Abi Ja’far عليه السلام: May Allah set you aright, the words of Allah Mighty and Majestic in His book: “The Fitra of Allah which He created the people upon” (30:30)? He (the Imam) said: He created them upon Tawhid, at the Covenant, upon His Ma’rifa (Recognition) that He is their Lord. I said: Did they address Him? He (Zurara) said: so he (the Imam) lowered his head and then said: If it were not for that they would not know who their Lord is nor who their Sustainer is.

[384/7] التوحيد: أبي، عن سعد، عن أحمد بن محمد، عن ابيه، عن ابن المغيرة، عن ابن مسكان، عن زرارة قال

قلت لابي جعفر عليه السلام: أصلحك الله قول الله عزوجل في كتابه فِطْرَتَ اللَّهِ الَّتِي فَطَرَ النَّاسَ عَلَيْهَا قال: فطرهم على التوحيد عند الميثاق على معرفته أنه ربهم قلت: وخاطبوه؟ قال: فطأطأ رأسه ثم قال: لولا ذلك لم يعلموا من ربهم ولا من رازقهم

3. [3/381] al-Tawhid: Ibn al-Walid from al-Saffar from Ibn Hashim and Ibn Yazid from Ibn Fadhal from Ibn Bukayr from Zurara from Abi Abdillah عليه السلام about the words of Allah Mighty and Majestic: “The Fitra of Allah which He created the people upon” (30:30). He said

He created them upon Tawhid.

11. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Yunus from ‘Umar ibn ‘Udhaynah from Zurarah who has said the following

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about a man who receives al-Fitrah: if he is required to pay al-Fitrah. He (the Imam) said, ‘Yes, he is required to pay al-Fitrah from what he receives as al- Fitrah.’”

11ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ يُونُسَ عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ أُذَيْنَةَ عَنْ زُرَارَةَ قَالَ

قُلْتُ الْفَقِيرُ الَّذِي يُتَصَدَّقُ عَلَيْهِ هَلْ عَلَيْهِ صَدَقَةُ الْفِطْرَةِ فَقَالَ نَعَمْ يُعْطِي مِمَّا يُتَصَدَّقُ بِهِ عَلَيْهِ.

Hadith.2082 - It is narrated by Muhammad ibn Mas'ud Al-Ayyashi, who said: Muhammad ibn Nusair narrated to us, saying: Sahl ibn Ziyad narrated to us, saying: Mansur ibn Al-Abbas narrated to us, saying: Isma'il ibn Sahl narrated from Hammad ibn Isa, from Hariz, from Zurara, from Abu Abdullah (as), who said

I asked him about slaves shared among a group of people, whether Zakat al-Fitr is obligatory on them. Imam (as) said: "If each person owns a full share (equivalent to one head), then he must pay Zakat al-Fitr for that share. However, if the number of slaves and owners are equal and they are collectively owned, then they are equal in responsibility, and each must pay Zakat al-Fitr proportionate to their share. But if each person's share is less than a full head, then there is no obligation upon them."

2082 - وَ رَوَى مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ اَلْعَيَّاشِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ نُصَيْرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سَهْلُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي مَنْصُورُ بْنُ اَلْعَبَّاسِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ حَرِيزٍ عَنْ زُرَارَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اَللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ قَالَ

قُلْتُ رَقِيقٌ بَيْنَ قَوْمٍ عَلَيْهِمْ فِيهِ زَكَاةُ اَلْفِطْرَةِ قَالَ «إِذَا كَانَ لِكُلِّ إِنْسَانٍ رَأْسٌ فَعَلَيْهِ أَنْ يُؤَدِّيَ عَنْهُ فِطْرَتَهُ وَ إِذَا كَانَ عِدَّةُ اَلْعَبِيدِ وَ عِدَّةُ اَلْمَوَالِي سَوَاءً وَ كَانُوا جَمِيعاً فَهُمْ سَوَاءٌ أَدَّوْا زَكَاتَهُمْ لِكُلِّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمْ عَلَى قَدْرِ حِصَّتِهِ وَ إِنْ كَانَ لِكُلِّ إِنْسَانٍ مِنْهُمْ أَقَلُّ مِنْ رَأْسٍ فَلاَ شَيْءَ عَلَيْهِمْ ».
