جعفر بن محمد الصادق عليه السلام

Imam Sadiq (a.s) said: “God the Almighty has partitioned Islam into seven parts. These are goodness, honesty, certitude, contentment (with divine destiny), loyalty, knowledge and patience. Then he has distributed these among the people. Whoever possesses all seven has perfect faith and is strong. He gave some people just one, some just two, some just three, some just four, some just five, some just six, and some all seven of these.” Then he added: “Therefore you should not expect one who has only been given one or two parts of the faith to be responsible for more, since he cannot bear more, and so on.”

Imam Sadiq (a.s) said: “Invite the people to do good deeds by acting, not just words, so that people see your efforts in the way of worshipping, piety and honesty.”

Imam Sadiq (a.s) said: “Whoever is honest is a good-doer.”

“A believer is counted among virtuous till he is silent. As soon as he speaks, he is included either among good people or bad ones.”

The religious people enjoy definite characters due to which they are recognized: telling truth, redemption of trusts, fulfillment of the pledge, infrequency of pride, shyness, regard of the relatives, mercifulness to the weak, rarity of copulation, doing of favors, good mannerism, broad-mindedness, and pursuance of knowledge as well as every matter that takes near to Allah. They will receive abundant blessings and the best eternal dwelling. Tuba –abundant blessings- is the name of a tree that is in Paradise. Its origin is in the house of the Prophet (s). In the house of every believer, there will be a branch of that tree. That branch will carry any desire that occurs to the believers. If a painstaking rider walks for one hundred years under the shadow of that tree, he will not be able to get out of it. If a crow begins his journey of flight from the lower part of that tree, it will not attain its higher part before it dies out of old age. You should desire for so. The (true) believer engages himself (in acts and rites of worship to Allah) while people feel restful towards him. When night comes upon him, he takes the face as his bed and prostrates his honorable organs before Allah, Powerful and Majestic is He. He confides to the One Who created him (secretly) to release him (from Hell). You should be like this.

“Isma’il is called the truthful in his promises; he promised a man to meet him at a certain place and Isma’il waited for him at that place for one year. Thus, Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, named him the truthful in his promise. The Imam then said, ‘The man then came at that place and Isma’il said to him, “I am still waiting for you.’””

the commander of the faithful عليه السلام said: men are of three kinds: intelligent, foolish and corrupt sinner, as for the intelligent one the religion is his path, and forbearance is his habit, and giving counsel is his disposition, when he is asked he answers, and when he speaks he is to the point, and when he hears he comprehends, and when he reports he is truthful, and when one confides in him he is loyal, as for the fool if someone alerts him to a beautiful thing he overlooks it, and if he is dissuaded from good he acquiesces to forsake it, and if he is driven to ignorance he becomes ignorant, and if he reports he is incorrect, he does not understand and if perchance he is able to understand he does not learn from it, and as for the corrupt sinner if you rely on him he betrays you, and if you befriend him he hates you, and if you trust him he is not sincere with you.

Imam Sadiq (a.s) said: “I advise you to fear God and tell the truth, to acquire piety and to strive to worship God, and to abandon sins. Beware that whoever does not control his wrath does not belong to our nation. So is one who does not honor friendship and is not a good friend, does not associate well, disturbs his neighbors, hurts his companions, does not treat his friends well, and does not oppose the one who tries to misguide him. I advise you to piety, abstention, concealing of faith and hiding your secrets. I swear by God that when I looked to the right and to the left, I saw people each going on their own way. I chose the right path from among all that dirt and dust. You should also fear God while you have time since there is no power other than God's Power.”

Imam Sadiq (a.s) said: “One will tell the truth so much that he will be included among the honest people near God, and will lie so much that he will be included among the liars near God. Whenever one tells the truth, God says: He told the truth, he did a good thing. When he tells a lie, God says: He lied, and did a wicked act.”

Imam Sadiq (a.s) said: “God did not appoint anyone to the prophethood unless he was honest and trustworthy.”

Imam Sadiq (a.s) said: “Whoever possesses the following four characteristics has perfected his Islam even if he lived in sin all his life: honesty, trustworthiness, shame, and good-temper.”

Abu Abdullah (asws) having said that: ‘A man came to the Prophet (saww) and said to him (saww), ‘O Rasool Allah (saww), advise me’. The Rasool Allah (saww) said to him: ‘So will you follow it if I (saww) give advice to you?’ To the extent that he (saww) said that to him three times, and during each of which the man said to him (saww), Yes, O Rasool Allah (saww)’. So the Rasool Allah (saww) said to him: ‘So I (saww) hereby advise you that whenever you feel like doing something, ponder over its consequences, for if there is guidance for you, so do it, and if it is a straying for you, so abstain from it’.

“God never appointed anyone to Prophethood unless he was honest and trustworthy. And we must return what we are entrusted with to its owner whether he is a good-doer or an evil-doer.”

“God the Almighty never appointed any Prophets who were not honest and trustworthy to good-doers and evil-doers.”

“Whoever acts and talks likewise is a perfect man, and whoever says something but does something else will only blame himself.”

Abu Abdillah peace be upon him, said: "Be it known to you that Allah hates a person who is unsteady and fickle. Never slip away from the truth and its partisans. Whoever, rules and oppresses with the aid of untruth, and his people shall perish, and shall lose (all that he may have gained from) this world, and leave the world low and humbled."

“Do not consider only the extent of one’s prayers, fasting, going on Hajj pilgrimage, good deeds and night worshipping. Rather consider his honesty in speech and trustworthiness in returning what he is entrusted with.”

Abu Abdullah (asws) has said; ‘The government of falsehood does not decline for a long time, and the government of the truth lasts for a short while’.

I advise you to espouse Godwariness, be truthful in [your] speech, return the trusts [entrusted to you], and be a good companion to the one who accompanies you. In the moments just before sunrise and sunset, supplicate [to Allah] and strive hard [to maintain this practice], and do not hold back from asking anything from your Lord. Do not say [to yourself], ‘This is something that He will not grant me,’ and supplicate [for everything you need], for verily Allah does as He wills.”

Whoever tells the truth has purified his deeds. God will increase the share of the daily bread of whoever has good intentions. God will extend the life of whoever treats his wife kindly.”
